One of the highlights of being a professional photographer is that I have the honor of photographing my own family and their major life milestones.

My brother, Jason, and his wife, Melissa, had their first child, Evelyn Jeannine, on August 6^th in Fredericksburg, Virginia. (I am very excited to officially be “Aunt Jessica!”) Luckily, we had a family trip planned for mid-September to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee so it was the perfect time to photograph “Evie”.

We plan our vacations around Florida Gator games so we planned this one around the FL vs. TN game in Knoxville. We rented a cabin in the mountains for a few days to relax. And on Sunday when it came time to do the photo session, everyone explored the mountains while the four of us turned the cabin into a photography studio. (After one minor diaper incident, Evie was ready to begin!)

For being only six weeks old, Evie was remarkably expressive. She has a great smile and thinks her Dad is hilarious! And Melissa has a natural maternal instinct that makes me so proud. They are both wonderful parents and I can’t wait to see them develop as a family. I’m blessed that I’ll be able to document Evie throughout her life.

It was a unique experience to photograph and witness the birth of a new family inside our own and I’m so happy my brother has a great start to his new life.
